The Cook prepares meals according to approved menus and recipes, taking into account the special dietary needs of residents living in the community. In the absence of the Dining Services Director, the cook supervises dietary staff to ensure efficient operation of the kitchen at all times. The role involves preparing and presenting menu items, maintaining a clean work area, reporting equipment issues, monitoring food temperatures and storage, making menu substitutions with approval, and ensuring the kitchen is ready for meal service. Evening shifts require ensuring the kitchen is clean and prepared for the next day. The cook must also be familiar with resident dietary needs, likes, and dislikes, and maintain courteous interactions with residents, visitors, and staff. This position also involves supervising dietary staff in the absence of leadership, assisting in training new employees, and conducting training sessions as directed. Attendance at all required in-service and staff meetings is mandatory.
