About The Position

The primary responsibility of this position is to work as a team member in the daily production requirements for the dining center, catering, and contract services in Dining Services and ensure the highest level of service for all customers. The Cook prepares food through various methods of baking, frying, broiling, grilling, etc. using industrial kitchen equipment. The Cook is also responsible for maintaining adequate food levels during service times, maintaining quality food standards, food safety and sanitation, cleaning kitchen equipment and work areas, and providing high quality customer service through face-to-face interaction with our guests. The Cook also supervises student cooks helpers and works to keep work areas and equipment clean and maintained. The Cook keeps accurate production records.

Requirements

  • Previous high volume cooking experience
  • Working knowledge of large scale commercial kitchen and production equipment
  • ServSafe or similar food safety course certificate, or pass ServSafe exam within the first three months' of employment
  • High school degree or GED
  • Dependable, team-oriented, and able to consistently prepare high-quality food in a fast-paced environment while following recipes, food safety standards, and production expectations.
  • Takes pride in their work, adapts well to changing needs, and contributes positively to a respectful and service-focused team culture.
  • Skilled in organizing and managing information and paperwork including production and usage summary reports, recipes, and recipe adjustments
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to prioritize tasks and the flexibility to respond to changing needs
  • Able to work cooperatively within a team in a fast-paced environment and take initiative to accomplish tasks
  • Able to supervise student employees and utilize them resourcefully to efficiently accomplish workload
  • Able to work with diverse groups of people.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food for residential dining, catering, and contract customers and other events according to standardized recipes as directed by the Lead Culinary Supervisor.
  • Maintain quality standards in food handling and preparation.
  • Maintain standards of sanitation and safety as established by local, state and federal health officials.
  • Maintain cost awareness in preparation and storage of all products with an emphasis on minimizing waste.
  • Assist with testing and standardizing new recipes.
  • Provide training and guidance to cooks helpers in the production of food.
  • Ensure that cooks helpers maintain standards of safety and sanitation in food handling.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in neat, clean and orderly conditions.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on designated equipment.
  • Report equipment repairs promptly as needed.
  • Complete service summary reports following each meal.
  • Submit recipe adjustments as needed.
  • Attend planning meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
