Under the supervision of the chef, the cook assists in the preparation and presentation of food for patients, employees, visitors, and special functions. This role also assists in the overall sanitation of kitchen equipment. The cook is responsible for preparing meal selections, operating kitchen appliances, and ensuring quality and quantity checks are performed. They must avoid waste, assist in cost containment, and may train or provide work directions to residents in a kitchen work program at a County correctional facility. This position involves preparing baked goods and desserts, performing baking tests, scheduling daily food preparations, and potentially supervising the patient tray line. The cook also assists in checking food orders, may place weekly food orders, and is responsible for the cleaning and proper use of equipment, reporting any necessary repairs. The role may involve working alternate weekends and assisting in providing work direction to other kitchen employees. Additionally, the cook may perform work of equal, higher, or lesser skill and responsibility as directed.
