About The Position

Responsible for the preparation of nutritionally balanced meal services to elderly Tribal members who reside in Adult Foster Care lodges, and to maintain common areas in a hygienic, safe, and presentable condition.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year of cooking experience in a regulated environment.
  • Requires knowledge of the Privacy Act and its application.
  • Requires First Aid/CPR certificate within 180 days of hire.
  • Requires food handlers’ card within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares all meals and snacks for residents of both lodges.
  • Cleans dining area, kitchen equipment and work areas.
  • Loads and unloads dishwasher and returns equipment to its proper place during and after each meal preparation.
  • Maintains standard of sanitation, health, safety, and nutrition.
  • Organizes and maintains kitchen areas.
  • Conducts periodic deep cleaning in common areas.
  • Properly handles, stores, and labels leftover food items.
  • Works in conjunction with the department supervisor to coordinate food procurement through outside food vendors.
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining the pantry area and ensuring it is kept clean.
  • Assists with shopping for food items.
  • Responsible for all meal preparation, ensures all items needed for the daily menu are ready, and ensures any special arrangements necessary are made.
  • Maintains recipe collection of frequent menu items and specialty items of interest.
  • Maintains inventory of stock, and monitors expiration dates.
  • Responsible for daily report to supervisor, to communicate any variations in menu or additional food items needed.
  • Reports any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisor for recommended course of action.
  • Assists with recreational cooking activities that may be scheduled.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
