About The Position

The Cook of the Long-Term Care residence is responsible for ensuring that proper meals are prepared and served on time and that work areas are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. This role involves checking special diet orders for new admissions, responding to resident or family member concerns, and potentially directing Food Services Workers in their duties and assuming responsibility for the operation of the Food Services Department.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a Cook preferably in a supervisory capacity.
  • Current provincial Safe Food Handling Certificate.
  • A minimum of public-school education is required.
  • Must have a diploma/certificate or equivalent in quality food preparation and production.

Nice To Haves

  • High school education is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that proper meals are prepared and served on time.
  • Maintaining work areas in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Checking special diet orders for new admissions to ensure they are correct (as required).
  • Responding to resident or family member concerns and ensuring appropriate action is taken within decision-making authority and/or bringing to the attention of the Food Services Manager/Supervisor.
  • Directing Food Services Workers in the performance of their duties and assuming responsibility for the operation of the Food Services Department (as required).
