About The Position

We are looking for a compassionate, caring, patient person, with an upbeat attitude to come as a work as a Cook for the Catherine Charles Long Term Care Home. This role requires you to provide healthy nutritious meals to the residents of the Long-Term Care Home following the Canada’s Healthy Food Guide, workers should be organized, flexible and adaptable. About the facility: LLRIBHS promotes health in our communities for the wellbeing of all members. The Licensed Catherine Charles Long Term Care is a 24-hour, 365 day’s facility. About the position: Plan and prepare food menu for a 24/7 operation that is consistent with Canada’s Healthy Food Guide; Must be able to follow a meal plan as set out by the Nutritionist; Maintain records of food usage and supplies; Obtain food and supplies based of budget; Must be able to shop in bulk; Must be able to keep inventory of all grocery supplies; Clean and sanitize work area.

Requirements

  • Must have relevant education
  • Safe Food Handling certificate is required
  • Must be willing to take further education and training
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Previous cooking experience is an asset
  • Valid First Aide/CPR & WHMIS is an asset
  • Ability to understand/speak Cree is an asset and is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Planning and preparing a one-year food menu for a 24/7 operation that is consistent with Canada’s Food Guide for First Nations, Inuit and Metis
  • Requesting Purchase Orders for groceries, equipment, and vending supplies based on the budget
  • Maintaining records of food supplies, stock and usage (includes master grocery list)
  • Utilizing knowledge of food safety and sanitation such as use of temperature gauges to check temperature of food; prevention of cross contamination; and follow sanitization schedule
  • Cooking for large groups of 10 or more people cost effectively
  • Provide catering services to LLRIBHS departments upon request, and bill appropriate department for catering services
  • Clean and sanitize work area
