About The Position

As a Cook at St Mark Episcopal School, you will play a vital role in preparing nutritious and appealing meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of our students and staff. Your work will ensure that food is prepared safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established health and safety standards. You will contribute to creating a positive dining experience by maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization in the kitchen. Collaboration with kitchen staff and school administration will be essential to coordinate meal planning and accommodate special dietary requirements. Ultimately, your efforts will support the overall well-being and satisfaction of our school community through quality food service.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in food preparation and cooking in a professional or institutional setting.
  • Ability to speak and understand English to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity and ability to handle kitchen tools and equipment safely.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods during food preparation and service.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Able to follow supervisors direction and lead a small team
  • Strong communication skills with employees and client
  • Able to follow spoken and written directions
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and use time efficiently
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information
  • Criminal background check required

Nice To Haves

  • Formal culinary training or certification.
  • Experience working in a school or similar institutional food service environment.
  • Familiarity with nutrition guidelines for children and adolescents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management and ordering procedures.
  • 2 years previous experience in a school food service setting preferred
  • ServSafe Certificate preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and nutritional guidelines.
  • Ensure all food preparation and storage complies with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food preparation areas.
  • Manage inventory and assist with ordering supplies to ensure availability of ingredients.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and school personnel to coordinate meal service and accommodate special dietary needs.
