About The Position

The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing meals in accordance with prescribed dietary guidelines. This includes cooking for special diets, (such as IDDSI, low-sodium, low-fat, gluten-free, etc.) to meet the nutritional needs of patients, residents, or clients. The cook ensures that meals are prepared in a safe, sanitary manner while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements and food allergies.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions precisely.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to [specified weight, e.g., 25 lbs].
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary training or certification is a plus.
  • Food Handler’s Certification (if required by state or region).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and season food items in accordance with dietary specifications, menus, and recipes.
  • Follow specific dietary instructions for patients or residents with special dietary needs (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, pureed).
  • Adhere to food safety standards, including safe food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
  • Assist with planning menus that meet nutritional guidelines and special dietary requirements.
  • Ensure portion sizes are consistent with nutritional standards and dietary plans.
  • Assist with the monitoring and management of food supplies, ensuring ingredients are fresh and appropriately stored.
  • Work closely with nutritionists, dietitians, and other kitchen staff to ensure food meets all health standards.
  • Assist with serving meals to residents or clients and ensuring proper food temperatures and presentation.
