About The Position

As a Cook at Woodland Recovery Center, you will play a vital role in preparing nutritious and safe meals tailored to the dietary needs of patients, residents, or clients. Your work will directly impact the health and well-being of individuals by ensuring food quality, safety, and adherence to specific dietary guidelines. You will collaborate closely with dietary staff and healthcare professionals to accommodate special diets and preferences while maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety. This role requires attention to detail, efficiency, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where meal timing is critical. Ultimately, your contribution will support the overall care experience by providing meals that promote recovery, comfort, and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in food preparation or cooking, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes and dietary instructions in English.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks including climbing stairs.
  • Effective communication skills in English to interact with team members and healthcare staff.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Food preparation and food production skills are essential for daily meal planning, cooking, and ensuring nutritional standards are met.
  • Manual dexterity is critical for handling kitchen tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Standing for extended periods and climbing stairs are necessary physical demands of the role.
  • Proficiency in reading and speaking English enables clear understanding of recipes, dietary instructions, and effective communication with healthcare staff and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and dietary requirements specific to healthcare settings.
  • Ensure all food preparation and production activities comply with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food preparation areas throughout the shift.
  • Assist in inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages or spoilage.
  • Communicate effectively with dietary staff and healthcare professionals to accommodate special dietary needs and preferences.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently while demonstrating manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs and lifting as required during food preparation and service.
