About The Position

This is a Non-Exempt position responsible for the USDA food service program for 10-60 children ages three through five, enrolled in the Head Start center. This role includes overall supervision of the kitchen, including food ordering, records production, safety and sanitation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid State Driver’s License and eligibility for Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.
  • Successful clearance of an extensive Criminal History Background Inquiry.
  • Maintained a substance-free lifestyle for the last year and willingness to sign and adhere to the Tribes Substance Abuse Policy and the Head Start’s Healthy Lifestyle Policy, including submitting to program testing procedures.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification within thirty (30) days of employment (or ability to obtain).
  • Food Handler’s permit, TB Test, and Health Clearance within ten (10) days of employment (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to make mathematical computations accurately and keep routine written records.
  • Experience cooking and ordering supplies for large groups.
  • Demonstrated experience with monitoring and auditing reports for compliance review.
  • Ability to provide nutrition education to staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to incorporate cultural foods into the Food Service Program.
  • Ability to perform various janitorial duties.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the USDA food service program for children ages three through five.
  • Oversee kitchen operations, including food ordering.
  • Maintain records of food production.
  • Ensure safety and sanitation standards in the kitchen.
  • Plan nutritious meals according to Head Start Food Service Criteria, performance standards, and USDA-CCFP and SPI requirements.
  • Supervise cooking operations and kitchen staff.
  • Monitor and audit reports for compliance review.
  • Provide nutrition education to staff, students, and parents.
  • Incorporate cultural foods into the Food Service Program.
  • Perform various janitorial duties to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
