About The Position

The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals, ensuring that food quality and safety standards are maintained. This position is a part-time schedule 3 to 4 days a week including weekends.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices.
  • Knowledge of dietary restrictions or allergies in regards to food preparation.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Skill in communicating with a variety of people from varying backgrounds.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in cooking for large groups.
  • High school Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Support and adhere to the NPI Code of Ethics, work rules, policies, plans and procedures to promote a safe and secure environment for the residents, visitors and employees of New Paths.
  • Prepare food according to recipes or personal creativity.
  • Cook food using methods such as grilling, baking, frying, steaming, etc.
  • Ensure dishes are plated attractively.
  • Maintain food safety by storing ingredients properly and adhering to hygiene and safety standards.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment and utensils.
  • Bag and remove trash as needed and transport via rolling cart to dumpster.
  • Work in a collaborative and efficient work environment with coworkers and clients volunteers.
  • Weekends (2 per month) and rotating holiday work.
  • NPW cooks are responsible for taking inventory and communicating what is needed to the kitchen manager.
  • Stock days are every Thursday, if offsite at NPW it is the cooks responsibility to go to the main building and restock when supplies are low.
  • Other duties as assigned.
