About The Position

The Cook is responsible for maintaining kitchen and cooking areas in a safe, orderly, clean, and sanitary manner. This role involves preparing a variety of flavorful meals in large quantities while adhering to portion control guidelines, accurately preparing special diets, and recording food temperatures. The Cook will also prepare pureed foods as needed, maintain sanitizer solutions, assist with meal serving, and ensure resident satisfaction. Cleaning of cooking areas and serving carts after meal service is also a key responsibility. Additionally, the Cook will report resident care concerns to the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing, participate in training new dietary staff, ensure appealing food presentation, and collaborate with personnel across all departments. Adherence to cleaning schedules and sanitation standards is mandatory.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a cook in a hospital or long-term care facility.
  • Ability to read and follow technical procedures and recipes.
  • Effectively communicate with managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Record food temperatures for all meals.
  • Prepare pureed foods as needed.
  • Maintain quaternary solution in sanitizer buckets.
  • Assist with serving meals and ensuring resident satisfaction.
  • Clean cooking areas and serving carts after meal service.
  • Report resident care concerns and potential issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
  • Ensure food presentation is appealing to residents.
  • Work collaboratively with personnel across all departments.
  • Adhere to cleaning schedules and ensure compliance with sanitation standards.
