About The Position

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the team as a Cook at the #1 Hotel in Los Angeles, as voted by Travel and Leisure: Oceana in Santa Monica, CA. This oceanfront, all-suite hotel reopened in July 2019 after undergoing a $35 Million complete transformation, and we are now seeking motivated, enthusiastic professionals to become integral members of our team. As a Cook at the Hotel Oceana Santa Monica’s Sandpiper Restaurant, you are responsible for preparing meals and following establishment recipes to deliver the high-quality meals our guests expect. You will help us achieve our goal of high guest satisfaction and unparalleled service for our guests. The How… Throughout each shift, you prepare ingredients, adhere to the menu, and follow food health and safety procedures to cook meals to order. You will maintain a safe food service environment by regularly cleaning workstations and equipment and assisting other cooks and the Chef in delivering food in a fast-paced environment. Your attention to detail in the dining environment, focused on food safety, will help ensure a positive dining experience. Your friendly, efficient, and high-touch approach is perfect for engaging team members throughout the day to ensure the kitchen executes all orders flawlessly, whether dine-in or room service. Your organizational skills and attention to detail are essential for assisting all kitchen and service staff members in contributing to effective restaurant operations. Your prior year-plus work experience as a cook, steward, or other related position and relevant training in food preparation for a fine-dining kitchen is helpful for quickly acclimating to the job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Has broad knowledge of local restaurants, nightlife, museums, current events, and attractions. Must be able to provide accurate and precise directions

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • A high school diploma or GED is required, or have equivalent work experience in the hospitality industry
  • Previous experience as a busboy, washer, waiter, cook, or relevant work experience required
  • Food handling certifications (ServSafe) required
  • Able to frequently lift or move items weighing up to 20 pounds; occasionally needs to lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds; must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Able to use hands to use and manipulate tools and objects or control equipment; adequate vision to do the same safely
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F)
  • Able to move about the property to perform assigned tasks and responsibilities, including standing for extended periods, walking, climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, or crouching to perform functions
  • Willing to conform to hotel dress and grooming standards, which include wearing the hotel-issued uniform, no visible tattoos while wearing a uniform, no unnatural hair colors, no piercings other than one pair of earrings, and neatly groomed facial hair.

  • Prior kitchen experience in a hospitality environment is preferred but not necessary.
