About The Position

Supervises, administers, and maintains the Youth Center Food Program and all related food services, in addition to food service staff training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years cooking experience; or satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience, however previous cook experience is required.
  • Must have current valid Food Handlers license.
  • Must be able to pass state background check clearance to work in a child center and be able to obtain a food handler’s permit.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Food handler’s permit required.
  • TB Test, First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment and periodically throughout employment.
  • Ability to manage food inventory control and basic nutritional requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, makes necessary purchases, prepares, and serves afternoon snack and dinner daily, in addition breakfast and lunch during school breaks to the children according to the guidelines specified by the PTHA Nutritionist.
  • Plans and posts menus in compliance with the PTHA Nutritionist. Any menu changes must comply with all applicable standards and be approved by the Director.
  • Properly stores and rotates food
  • Coordinates the food service program with other parent involvement activities and other center functions, and assists teachers with food and cooking experiences they plan for in the classroom.
  • Participates in and/or conducts in-service training programs about role of nutrition in child development and help meet needs of children in relation to the meal-service program in accordance with the staff training requirements of the PTHA Nutritionist.
  • Execute duties professionally and appropriately each day in a timely manner, upkeep and maintenance of work space, sanitation of food surfaces, oven, fridge, freezer, floors and cabinets.
  • Cleans kitchen, all dishes, meal carts and maintains a sanitary work environment.
  • The Lead Cook will need to ensure and instruct that only authorized kitchen personnel enter and remain in the kitchen to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Uses time effectively, getting food to the classrooms at scheduled meal and snack times. In addition, getting cleaning and sanitation completed, dishes washed in timely manner and food order put away.
  • Post and know all child allergies, ensure no child is offered food that may cause an allergic reaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
