About The Position

Serve our Head Start children varied, nutritious, tasty, and appealing meals and snacks. Purchase all food and supplies necessary and keep records as required, maintain a kitchen as spotless as your own! Prepare meals and snacks following a cycle menu with recipes provided, ensure food tastes good, looks appealing and is portion-controlled. For children with diet restrictions, follow the child’s plan of action to meet developmental, medical, and feeding needs. Deliver all food to the classrooms ready to be served as family style meal service. Assure the proper sanitation use, and maintenance of all food service equipment. Maintain appropriate inventory to ensure all items are available for meal preparation and to ensure accurate ordering of items from food vendors. Complete and submit food service reports as required, including cycle menus, purchase orders, food inventory worksheets, and hot food temperature monitoring log. Supervise any Cook Assistants if onsite. Collaborate in nutrition education activities for staff, parents, and children. All positions require a background check, drug test, and physical.

Requirements

  • Two years in commercial food preparation
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds, stoop, bend, and reach
  • A valid driver’s license, a driving history acceptable to agency insurer
  • Involves extensive organizing, problem solving, record keeping, and time management
  • Background check
  • Drug test
  • Physical
