The Cook prepares and serves food, including texture-modified and therapeutic diets, according to the facility menu. This role ensures food preparation aligns with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures, under the direction of the Dining Services Director or Chef. The Cook also assists with food receiving, storage, preparation, serving, sanitation, and cleaning procedures. Key attributes include being detail-oriented, professional, and a team player. The Cook may assist dietary aides and direct other employees in the absence of the Dining Services Director. The position requires the ability to understand and follow directions, manage time schedules for meal preparation, maintain a neat appearance, and possess dependability with experience in quantity food production. General knowledge of nutrition, the ability to read and apply food tray card requirements, and record-keeping skills are necessary. Strong written and oral communication skills, knowledge of food safety and sanitation, and the ability to interact positively with residents, clients, personnel, and the public are essential. The role involves working around food and cleaning products and requires residency within the service area.
