About The Position

Responsible for preparing all food items per recipes. Preparing a variety of meats, seafood, poultry and other food items. The Cook is responsible for preparing food in accordance with the approved menu, current standards, guidelines, and regulations with established procedures, and as may be directed by the Executive Director and/or Culinary Services Director to assure that quality food service is provided at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a cook in an institutional setting.
  • Criminal record clearance.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to make moderately complex mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to make close estimates of quantities of food needed.
  • Ability to follow approved, standardized recipes and menus for regular and therapeutic diets.
  • Ability to make independent decisions with work without supervision.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with residents and family members, staff and general public.
  • Ability to make decisions in stressful situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a supervisor head cook preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing all food items per recipes.
  • Preparing a variety of meats, seafood, poultry and other food items.
  • Assume a 100% responsibility for quality of products served.
  • Stock and maintain line stations to assure a smooth service.
  • Plan and coordinate food and supplies required for daily menus.
  • Wash dishes, as time permits.
  • Follow all safety procedures when handling kitchen equipment and complies with sanitation standards.
  • Follow proper plate presentation and assure quality control and consistency of food.
  • Adhere to guidelines in Employee Handbook including dress code, conduct, scheduling, etc.
  • Follow the attendance policy.
  • Give requests for time off in a timely matter.
  • Time in and out in a timely matter.
  • Do not perform duties when on a break or your lunch time.
  • Prepare and serve all food items and meals in accordance with planned menus and recipes ensuring all meals and food prepared are of high quality, palatable and appetizing.
  • Assist in food preparation for special meals, parties, events, etc.
  • Inspect special diet requests and orders to assure that the correct diet is being served.
  • Prepare food and serve in accordance with sanitary regulations, as well as with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that food storage areas are clean and properly arranged at all times.
