About The Position

This is a Non-Exempt position responsible for the USDA food service program for 10-60 children ages three through five, enrolled in the Head Start center. The role includes overall supervision of the kitchen, including food ordering, records production, safety and sanitation. The position also requires performing various janitorial duties to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid State Driver’s License and eligibility for Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.
  • Successful clearance of an extensive Criminal History Background Inquiry.
  • Substance-free lifestyle for the last year and willingness to adhere to Tribes Substance Abuse Policy and Head Start’s Healthy Lifestyle Policy.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification within thirty (30) days of employment (or ability to obtain).
  • Food Handler’s permit, TB Test, and Health Clearance within ten (10) days of employment (or ability to obtain).
  • Reference check.
  • Ability to make mathematical computations accurately and keep routine written records.
  • Experience cooking and ordering supplies for large groups.
  • Experience planning nutritious meals according to specific criteria.
  • Experience supervising cooking operations and kitchen staff.
  • Demonstrated experience with monitoring and auditing reports for compliance review.
  • Ability to provide nutrition education.
  • Ability to incorporate cultural foods.
  • Ability to perform various janitorial duties.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the USDA food service program for 10-60 children ages three through five.
  • Supervise the kitchen operations, including food ordering and record production.
  • Ensure safety and sanitation standards are met in the kitchen.
  • Perform various janitorial duties to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Plan nutritious meals according to Head Start Food Service Criteria, performance standards, and USDA-CCFP and SPI requirements.
  • Incorporate cultural foods into the Food Service Program.
  • Provide nutrition education to staff, students, and parents.
  • Monitor and audit reports for compliance review.
