About The Position

Kern Medical is seeking a Temporary, Full-Time Cook I for its Nutrition Services department. This is an entry-level position within the cook series, involving routine and repetitive tasks performed under close supervision according to established procedures. Successful completion of training and meeting minimum requirements for Cook II may lead to promotion without further examination, based on merit and departmental approval. Extra-help employment has a limited term of up to 9 months. Health Benefits coverage may be offered.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a cook in a full service restaurant or an institutional kitchen preparing food in quantity or one year of experience as a Food Service Worker II or a combination of education, training and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skills to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Knowledge of the methods of preparing food in large quantities and considerable variety; kitchen sanitation and food storage; and personal cleanliness and neatness.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipes and prepare quantities of food required with a minimum of waste; accurately record information regarding menus and supplies; organize work and establish priorities in preparing meals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, cooks, and seasons, soups, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, desserts and other foods.
  • Follows master recipes in the preparation of food.
  • Prepares food for freezing; operates grill, deep fat fryer, steam cooker, slicers, mixers and other related equipment.
  • Assists in cleaning equipment and area after meals.
  • Serves food.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
