About The Position

Wellstar is seeking a dedicated Cook - Grill Cook to join their team. This full-time position involves preparing nutritious and delicious food for WellStar Patient Meal Service, Retail Service, and/or other satellite areas. The role requires a passion for culinary arts, strict adherence to sanitation and food handling codes (HACCP and local Department of Health), and the ability to maintain high standards of safety and sanitation when preparing food for a high-risk population. The cook must be adept at time management and planning to produce a variety of recipes simultaneously, potentially under high-volume demands, and possess the ability to assess food quality through taste, color, and odor. The position emphasizes ensuring customer and team member safety, positive service outcomes, a world-class work environment, and the high-quality preparation of menu items using various culinary techniques.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and Math.
  • Ability to complete mandatory computer-based learning and pass exam.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety regulations in a food service healthcare environment.
  • High School Diploma (Preferred)
  • ServSafe Food Handler or ServSafe Food Handler - Provisional (within 90 Days)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the Safety of Customers and Team Members (according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and County Health Department Guidelines) by washing hands frequently, wearing gloves, following infection prevention practices, maintaining clean and organized work areas, monitoring and recording temperatures, storing food properly, and operating equipment safely.
  • Ensures Positive Service Outcomes by following the department work schedule, arriving at the work station on time, setting up and breaking down workstations, following instructions accurately, completing checklists, operating and caring for equipment according to guidelines, and remaining flexible to support team members.
  • Engages in Efforts to Create a World Class Work Environment by following uniform specifications, collaborating with team members and leadership, communicating respectfully, and respecting cultural traditions.
  • Ensures the High Quality of Menu Items Prepared by Utilizing Culinary Techniques, including peeling and cutting fresh products, butchering meats, dicing, julienning, mincing vegetables, utilizing proper cooking techniques (dry, wet, combination), identifying and handling ingredients, and accurately reading and following recipes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
