About The Position

This role combines the responsibilities of a Cook and a Custodian within the Ozark School District. The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving attractive, nutritionally balanced meals for children, adhering to recipes, maintaining food quality and portion control, and ensuring food supplies are stored properly. This includes cleaning kitchen areas, assisting with ordering, and potentially learning the POS system. The Custodian performs janitorial duties, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, restocking supplies, emptying trash, maintaining janitorial areas and equipment, proper chemical use, and general grounds maintenance. Both roles require adherence to safety standards, proper attire, and the ability to adapt to changing duties.

Requirements

  • School lunch experience desirable.
  • Any food service experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply basic food preparation methods.
  • Ability to maintain all equipment and supplies used in cooking, food preparation, food storage and cleaning/sanitation in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to adapt to changes (i.e. food substitutions and numbers served).
  • Good written and oral communications skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in a logical, responsible and compassionate manner.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn proper cleaning techniques.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Ability to work independently as needed to support the group effort.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning products or willingness to learn.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or further Technical Training applicable to the job.
  • Six months or more related experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License required or the willingness to obtain within one fiscal year.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares and serves attractive and nutritionally balanced meals for children.
  • Adheres to ingredients, measurements and cooking methods as stated on recipes.
  • Ensures food supplies are securely stored.
  • Wears proper cooking attire (i.e. apron, hat or hair net, gloves, etc.).
  • Uses proper dishwashing methods.
  • Cleans kitchen areas after each meal is served.
  • Assists with ordering food and supplies as necessary.
  • Learns the POS system and depositing money.
  • Adapts to changes in work duties assigned.
  • May be asked to work in another kitchen for the school district.
  • Attends staff training and meetings as necessary or required.
  • Performs daily, biweekly, & weekly maintenance schedules.
  • Vacuums, sweeps, and mops flooring.
  • Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms.
  • Restocks supplies in bathrooms.
  • Empties all trash cans and replaces liners, cleans receptacles as necessary.
  • Maintains janitorial areas (storage rooms, closets, etc.) in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
  • Maintains janitorial equipment in a clean, safe, and operable manner.
  • Properly dilutes and uses all chemicals.
  • Wears proper personal protective equipment at needed times (safety glasses, gloves, etc).
  • Performs general maintenance of grounds.
  • Notifies Supervisor concerning the need for repairs to operating systems or equipment.
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Monitors building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours.
  • Performs other routine maintenance duties as assigned.
