About The Position

Sofidel America is hiring multiple Converting Utility Operators for our manufacturing facility in Lewiston, Idaho. This is an entry-level opportunity for individuals looking to build a career in manufacturing with a global industry leader. The Converting Utility Operator is responsible for safely operating and monitoring production equipment to produce high-quality products that meet company standards. This role performs equipment setup, changeovers, quality inspections, basic troubleshooting, material handling, documentation, and routine maintenance while following all safety, food safety, and quality procedures. This position works collaboratively with production, maintenance, and quality teams to maximize efficiency, minimize downtime, and maintain a clean, safe work environment. This is a union covered position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of continuous employment required; industrial or paper manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with work order systems preferred.
  • Physically demanding role: exposure to temperature extremes, noise, dust, and chemicals.
  • Perform manual labor: standing, bending, climbing, and using tools for 12-hour shifts.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs frequently; heavier loads require team or crane assistance.
  • Wear required PPE (eye/ear protection, steel-toe shoes).
  • Work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • industrial or paper manufacturing experience preferred.
  • familiarity with work order systems preferred.
  • Experience with forklifts preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust production equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.
  • Perform machine setup, start-ups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
  • Load and stage raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
  • Conduct quality inspections and complete required production and traceability documentation.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and perform basic machine adjustments.
  • Clear jams, replace components, and assist with routine preventive maintenance.
  • Follow production schedules, work orders, and product specifications.
  • Maintain accurate product coding, packaging, and quality standards.
  • Follow all safety, food safety, GMP, SOP, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and PPE requirements.
  • Inspect equipment and maintain clean, organized work areas.
  • Communicate production, quality, and equipment issues with supervisors and team members.
  • Support production goals by minimizing downtime, reducing waste, and maintaining efficient operations.
  • Participate in required training and maintain qualification and production records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
