About The Position

Engineered Profiles is a mid-sized plastic extrusion manufacturer with approximately 300 employees. Our facility operates multiple custom extrusion lines and downstream systems, supported by a strong 25-person maintenance department. We prioritize safety, uptime, and continuous improvement, and we’re looking for a Controls Technician who can help keep our operation running at peak performance. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and focused on classic industrial controls — no robotics. We’re looking for a skilled Controls Technician to support the electrical and controls systems that keep our production lines running safely and reliably. This role focuses on troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving power circuits, control circuits, instrumentation, and automation equipment across the facility. This is a hands‑on, hourly role for someone strong in electrical troubleshooting and comfortable navigating PLCs for diagnostics (no programming required).

Requirements

  • Strong electrical troubleshooting experience in an industrial environment
  • Ability to safely work on 480V systems
  • Experience with VFDs, instrumentation, and motor control circuits
  • Ability to go online with PLCs for diagnostics (no programming required)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Understanding of safety circuits and basic troubleshooting
  • Solid communication and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • Two‑year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, Mechatronics, or Automation/Controls Technology
  • Completion of a state‑recognized electrical apprenticeship
  • Military electrical/technical training
  • 3+ years in an industrial maintenance or electrical role
  • Experience with Allen‑Bradley hardware (PLC‑5, SLC, CompactLogix, ControlLogix) for online diagnostics
  • Hands‑on experience with VFDs, sensors, and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E and industrial electrical safety practices
  • Experience reading and updating electrical schematics
  • Experience in continuous‑process manufacturing
  • Exposure to analog troubleshooting (4–20 mA loops, scaling, noise issues)
  • Experience with system level diagnostics across mechanical/electrical/controls boundaries

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems up to 480V
  • Diagnose and repair control circuits, safety circuits, relays, and field devices
  • Navigate PLC programs for troubleshooting (online monitoring, fault tracing, cross‑referencing)
  • Troubleshoot and replace VFDs, sensors, encoders, and instrumentation
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical and controls equipment
  • Maintain and update electrical schematics and documentation
  • Support production teams during downtime events
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams
  • Follow all electrical safety and lockout/tagout procedures
