About The Position

First Quality is seeking a Controls Technician for their First Quality Tissue SE facility located in Anderson, SC. This role is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining production equipment to ensure optimal reliability, performance, and safety. The technician will work with various control systems, including PLCs, DCSs, HMIs, and servo systems, and will be involved in making program modifications and potentially hardware changes to improve equipment efficiency.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical theory and principles of operation.
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC (and DCS if required) based hardware and software.
  • Ability to make quick and accurate electrical repairs and program changes.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop and operate power industrial trucks.
  • Ability to work shifts.
  • Minimum of a 2 year technical degree (Associates Degree in Mechatronics, IET, EET), and/or has 5+ years’ experience in industrial controls maintenance environment.

Responsibilities

  • Observe all OSHA and company safety rules and use proper safety equipment.
  • Notify Supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical hazards and take corrective action.
  • Demonstrate basic National Electrical Code understanding.
  • Troubleshoot machine breakdowns and malfunctions using knowledge of PLC, DCS, HMI, and servo systems, including electrical schematics and meters.
  • Train and assist technicians in troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and calibrating electrical sensing devices and control devices.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and calibrate all electrical control devices such as AC drives, DC drives, Servo Controllers, contactors, motors, breakers, solenoids, power supplies, and indicator lights.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and calibrate all DCS/PLC/HMI hardware, including processors, I/O cards, power supplies, network adapters, and operator interfaces.
  • Make critical decisions to proactively avoid downtime, quality, scrap, and safety problems based on machine processes and controls systems experience.
  • Make complex program modifications in PLC logic, HMI programs, and servo controller logic to improve equipment performance.
  • Work with Controls Engineers to implement changes on the DCS system.
  • Make significant changes to control equipment and wiring on machines as needed.
