About The Position

The Controls Technician will be responsible for designing, developing, installing, and upgrading machine controls for assigned manufacturing machinery and equipment. This role serves as an automation technical resource for continuous improvement and capital projects, working closely with the Electrical Controls Engineer. The technician will complete improvement projects to meet site goals, provide PLC and drive support, and support electrical design using AutoCAD. Documentation of electrical modifications, troubleshooting of existing systems, and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and safety are key aspects of this position. The role also involves staying informed of process changes, providing guidance to electrical workers, assisting other employees, and fostering a team environment. The technician is expected to initiate action to prevent electrical issues, suggest improvements, and verify solutions, while also addressing safety concerns promptly.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Engineering (PET, IET, EE, Met) or equivalent experience
  • Entry-Level experience in debugging and testing electro-mechanical systems and controls
  • Entry-Level experience configuring HMIs for discrete manufacturing equipment
  • Entry-Level experience programming and commissioning motion control systems including multi-axis robots and servos
  • Entry-Level experience programming PLC based controls for manufacturing
  • Entry-Level experience in industrial automation with electro-mechanical and controls work
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Good people skills and ability to systematically troubleshoot.
  • Highly organized and able to work independently.

  • Machine vision applications a plus
  • Utilizing engineering principles and knowledge to effectively troubleshoot control issues.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as an automation technical resource for continuous improvement and capital projects efforts working with the Electrical Controls Engineer
  • Completing improvement projects that help meet site goals
  • Providing PLC and drive support for plant equipment
  • Supporting the electrical design, schematics and drawings using AutoCAD
  • Documenting electrical modifications made to equipment (i.e. updating schematics, drawings, work instructions, etc.)
  • Work with Engineers to read mechanical design drawings for electrical requirements
  • Troubleshooting issues with existing installed systems
  • Supporting and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement, quality, high performance and process excellence
  • Remaining familiar with new equipment and assisting in training other technicians
  • Ensuring compliance to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Establishing, supporting and maintaining a “safety first” culture
  • Accountable for employee safety through active engagement in safety activities
  • Completing incident investigations, root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner
  • Staying informed of process changes which may affect the normal operation of the equipment
  • Provide guidance to all plant certified electrical workers in regards to PLC/Automation
  • Assist other employees as needed.
  • Foster a team environment.
  • Utilize root cause analysis to address process and quality issues
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Initiate action to prevent occurrences of any electrical issues
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Suggest actions for continual improvement to products, processes, or systems.

  • Address safety issues upon discovery and/or notification.
