About The Position

We are seeking a highly strategic and technically adept Controls Technician Manager to lead our automation maintenance department at our brand-new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Provo. This is a foundational leadership role; it’s an opportunity to build, scale, and define a culture of technical excellence and operational reliability from the ground up. Reporting to the Factory Automation Engineering Manager, you will direct a department of specialized technicians and team leads dedicated to the reliability, functionality, and optimization of our cutting-edge robotics and automation systems. You will balance deep technical expertise with high-level strategic planning, budget management, and departmental leadership to ensure our facility operates at peak efficiency.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in industrial controls, automation engineering, or manufacturing maintenance, with at least 4 years in a direct management or senior leadership capacity.
  • High-level proficiency in PLC programming/troubleshooting (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), SCADA interfaces, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and industrial communication protocols.
  • Expert ability to read, interpret, and red-line complex electrical, pneumatic, and P&ID drawings.
  • Advanced experience utilizing and configuring CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) to track assets, analyze downtime data, and optimize labor allocation.
  • A proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement. You implement systemic solutions to root causes rather than just treating symptoms.
  • Exceptional executive-level verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate complex technical data into actionable business insights for senior leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field; or equivalent Journeyman Electrician license.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or proven experience implementing TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) programs.
  • Advanced Fanuc/ABB robotics programming and integration certifications.
  • Experience leading facility-wide safety audits or developing EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, mentor, and scale a team of Controls Technicians and Shift Leads. Define departmental KPIs and foster a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and safety.
  • Develop and execute high-level, data-driven initiatives to minimize equipment downtime, optimize cycle times, and extend asset lifecycles.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Engineering and Operations teams, leading integration for site projects, negotiating with vendors, and overseeing the commissioning of new capital equipment.
  • Act as the ultimate point of escalation for critical machine downtime, coordinating rapid-response troubleshooting and directing root-cause analysis investigations.
  • Design, implement, and audit a comprehensive Preventive and Predictive Maintenance (PM/PdM) program utilizing our CMMS.
  • Provide high-level guidance and oversight on complex diagnostics involving PLCs, SCADA systems, industrial networking, and robotics.
  • Champion safety culture. Ensure all departmental work adheres to strict OSHA standards, PPE requirements, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols.
  • Mandate and oversee accurate record-keeping for equipment calibrations, compliance inspections, and repair histories across the facility.

Benefits

  • Fully sponsored, "best-in-class" medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Competitive base salary, performance bonuses, equity packages, and a robust 401k program.
  • Work with and help direct the implementation of the newest automation technology in the industry.
  • Healthcare, dental, mental health support, parental planning resources, retirement savings options, and generous paid time off.
