About The Position

The Controls Technician Intern will support the Maintenance team while gaining hands-on experience in industrial equipment repair, troubleshooting, and automation systems. This internship is designed to develop future technical talent by providing exposure to production machinery, PLC programming, and continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment. Quanex is looking for a Controls Technician Intern to join our team located in Sioux Falls, SD.

Requirements

Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, robotics, manufacturing engineering, or a related field
Basic knowledge of electrical systems and industrial electrical theory
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints
Familiarity with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and modification
Understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
Ability to safely use a multimeter for diagnostics
Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety

Responsibilities

Assist with maintenance and repair requests from manufacturing operations.
Support the Manufacturing Engineering team with PLC program improvements and troubleshooting.
Help implement wiring upgrades on production equipment to enhance safety and reliability.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by helping organize and optimize the maintenance workspace.
Support continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives through improved documentation and process clarity.
