About The Position

While reporting to the Plant Engineer, the Controls Technician III is responsible for maintaining and improving plant equipment reliability through advanced troubleshooting, controls support, electronic system maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role supports both daily maintenance operations and long-term controls projects across the facility.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of industrial maintenance experience with strong focus on electrical and electronic systems
  • Strong experience with PLCs, VFDs, contactors, PCs, and related controls systems
  • Understand software applications and device configuration including VFDs and controllers
  • Troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical systems
  • Strong computer skills, including CMMS and word processing systems
  • Strong general math skills
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, circuit locators, and thermal imaging equipment
  • Read and interpret blueprints and diagrams
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Strong people skills and experience building vendor relationships
  • Committed to continued technical development and education

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of reliability for plant equipment through troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance
  • Work safely and follow all plant safety rules and procedures
  • Pass electrical skills and safety testing to become a qualified Category 2 worker
  • Follow all electrical safety work practices and assist in training maintenance personnel
  • Establish and maintain accurate, current, and secure documentation of electronic files and supporting software
  • Evaluate electronic systems and software applications
  • Execute approved design changes, implementations, modifications, and updates to wiring and devices on equipment
  • Participate actively in process improvements, new installations, and equipment make-ready projects involving PLC, electronic, and mechanical systems
  • Work on electrical systems up to 480 volts
  • Perform maintenance technician duties as needed, including PMs, project work, scheduled maintenance, and breakdown response
  • Support mechanical work and building repair activities when required
  • Supervise and follow maintenance-related tasks to ensure effective completion
  • Mentor and train members of the Maintenance and Label/Printing departments
  • Serve as a 24/7 technical resource for consultation and emergency call-in support
  • Manage vendor communication and relationships
  • Partner with the Maintenance Planner on inventory management for electronic spare parts
  • Maintain organization and housekeeping in electrical parts storage areas
