About The Position

Performs technical duties and activities within prescribed time frames. Participates in projects to improve overall process and technical efficiency. Corning is one of the world’s leading innovators in glass, ceramic, and materials science. Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Requirements

  • Experience integrating field devices (flow, motion, temperature, material handling) and safety systems into automated equipment platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming (ladder logic), PID loop tuning, HMI/GUI development, and control system architectures.
  • Understanding of electrical design, robotics, electro-mechanical and motion control systems, and system integration in manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, process, engineering) to implement control logic, fail-safe states, and recovery sequences.
  • Proven project execution skills, including estimating timelines, meeting deliverables, and supporting system checkout and panel verification.
  • Solid troubleshooting, problem-solving, and teamwork skills with a results-driven mindset.
  • 2-year technical degree, with focus of EE, CS, Mechatronics, or similar area.
  • 3+ years equipment/controls experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preferred with Allen-Bradley PLC’s.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with controls engineers to develop and implement control logic, fail-safe states, and recovery sequences.
  • Support engineering project teams in delivering cost-effective automation and manufacturing systems.
  • Implement field devices and control architectures aligned with site standards and process requirements.
  • Troubleshoot automation issues and contribute to system integration and technical problem-solving.
  • Coordinate with external integrators and machine builders to meet project deliverables.
  • Participate in system fabrication, testing, documentation, installation, startup, and training.
  • Manage assigned project timelines and provide regular progress updates to project leadership.
