About The Position

The Controls Technician is responsible for electrical control systems on all production/support equipment and machinery. Must be proficient at troubleshooting/repairing all aspects of electrical control systems and electrical components for production equipment and machinery. This position requires a person that is very hands-on and assertive in driving continuous improvement activities pertaining to production equipment. The role also involves participating as a team member, fostering cohesiveness, and supporting Simmons' operating systems principles and objectives. The position may require performing other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Requirements

  • Proficiency/Experience in FactoryTalk, RSLinx, RSLogix 5000 and RSLogix 500.
  • Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley HMIs and PLCs, relays, logic diagrams, etc.
  • Familiarity with AC / DC Motor Controls and Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Industrial controls experience/skills.
  • Knowledge of RSLogix 500 and 5000 as well as FactoryTalk is required.
  • Ability to manually lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures, on feet for entire shift.
  • Ability to work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, dirty area with a noise level above 90 decibels.
  • Must wear steel toed shoes, ear plugs, hair net, hard hat and other PPE as required.

Nice To Haves

  • ABB knowledge is a plus.
  • Preference for food manufacturing organization.
  • Some college and/or Tech School graduate.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to maintenance and emergency situations, including electrical, motor, and control problems.
  • Modify ladder logic programming.
  • Read and understand ladder logic and electrical schematics.
  • Assist Maintenance with electrical and control support.
  • Support, create, integrate, troubleshoot, and improve processing and packaging control systems.
  • Work with Maintenance Manager/Supervisors to develop plans to reduce downtime.
  • Work with engineering and maintenance teams to modify control systems to improve operations.
  • Participate in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Coordinate work to ensure best practices with all team members.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Foster strong cohesiveness regarding major issues.
  • Accept responsibility to identify areas lacking cohesiveness and work with the team to resolve issues.
  • Reinforce actions needed to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems and the position's role in supporting them.
  • Communicate concerns and improvement ideas regarding operating systems.
