The Controls Systems Operations Manager will lead a Branch Systems operation team consisting of Systems Technicians and Systems Designers. This role involves assigning projects, allocating resources, and providing site coordination support on complex projects. Ensuring compliance with legal requirements and adherence to the highest ethical and safety standards is paramount.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of HVAC proven experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles of air conditioning with specific knowledge of Commercial Product lines required.
  • Minimum of a technical associate degree with six years of field experience or eight years of equivalent related field and site coordination experience in the HVAC industry.
  • Must have relevant technical hands-on experience, systems design, and commissioning of digital HVAC controls systems.
  • Must have the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Demonstrates solid coaching and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have knowledge of control theory and HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of project accounting, costing principles, and contracting required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a Branch Systems operation team consisting of Systems Technicians and Systems Designers.
  • Assign projects to Lead Systems Specialists and allocate appropriate resources (i.e., Systems Technicians and System Designers) to those projects.
  • Provide site coordination support (job chargeable) on projects with high contract complexity to the Lead Systems Specialist as needed.
  • Ensure work performed is in compliance with state, local and Federal legal requirements and operates on the job with the highest ethics.
  • Adhere to and ensure Johnson Controls staff and subcontractors adhere to all safety standards.
  • Hire, retain, performance manage, and plan for career development of direct reports.
  • Prepare and deliver clear performance expectations, performance reviews, and development plans for direct reports.
  • Train and mentor System Technicians and System Designers.
  • Act as a facilitator for Systems Operations Technical Training (SO TechT).
  • Ensure that delegated tasks are done accurately, timely, billed, within budget, and within scope of the contract.
  • Coordinate and allocate resources between the assigned Lead Systems Specialists to ensure timely efficient installation and completion of projects.
  • Recruit Systems Designers and Systems Technicians with appropriate skills and proficiencies to meet the needs of the Branch.
  • Review and interpret contract terms and conditions and assist Lead Systems Specialists with site coordination tasks with projects of higher complexity including such tasks as representing Johnson Controls at site coordination meetings, coordinating subcontractors, project administration, and conflict resolution (i.e., job chargeable activities).
  • Assist the LSS in evaluating the contractual scope of work and the impact of client issued bulletins, field directives, and/or scheduling changes.
  • Assist the Systems Operations Team in finding opportunities and actively pursuing additional work through change orders.
  • Assist the Lead Systems Specialist in developing a Schedule of Values on projects of higher complexity that require detailed billing.
  • Conduct pre-bid and pre-book project review with sales staff.
  • Develop and maintain viable long-term relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors in the community.
