About The Position

Controls System ACCIS Engineer will support Computer Systems Engineering department which is responsible for digital instrumentation and control equipment for projects involving control, monitoring, and operator displays in the nuclear island for our existing customers and new builds. We are responsible for digital system design, equipment selection and procurement, and all software activities. This is a developmental position, and all duties will be carried out under general supervision of Technical Lead. Your role Execute software engineering tasks including software requirements specification, software design description, coding, verification, testing, documentation and development of safety related real time software for projects involving new CANDU nuclear power plant architectures/designs and/or retrofits to existing nuclear plants and installations. The Advanced Control Center Information System is a SCADA software used in plant display systems and HMIs. This software runs on the QNX operating system and is programmed in C & C++. Develop software and scripts using a variety of programming languages/toolsets/environments including but not limited to POSIX- operating system, Java, SQL, XML, Visual Studio, Eclipse Platform, IEC61131-3 languages, LabVIEW. Participate in conceptual design of safety/control systems to define system requirements, computer system architecture/design, product /tool technologies and evaluate system performance and reliability. Evaluate computer vendor products and prepare procedures/guides for implementing such products into computer software design, development and V&V processes. Prepare requirements and develop tools for test/development systems as needed for production of safety critical software. Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other divisions within the company. Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget and reporting to meet project goals. Preparation of system/software change request for modifications to existing systems/software.

Requirements

  • Honours degree in a relevant field of engineering from a university of recognized standing.
  • Software development experience for QNX Operating System 7.0+ and developing GUI applications using QT 5 & 6 is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Object Oriented Design and UML is highly desirable.
  • Experience with using and configuring static code analyzers (linting tools) is highly desirable.
  • Experience with databases such as MyQSL, SQLite, or PI is desirable.
  • Experience with virtualization and tools such as VMWare is desirable.
  • Experience with industry and/or international I&C/software standards is considered an asset.
  • Strong background in computer hardware is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrate good technical skills and problem-solving capabilities and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
