About The Position

Join our team as a Controls Specialist II, where you will provide technical support, perform retro-commissioning, and conduct first-level analysis of HVAC performance to support the coordinated operation and maintenance of campus systems, ensuring a safe, functional, clean, and efficient learning environment. In this role, you will apply intermediate-level expertise in HVAC and building automation control systems to troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and support continuous system improvement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to read and understand printed process, circuit, and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic and pneumatic controls.
  • Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license.
  • The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough understanding of HVAC controls theory and concepts; to include sequence of operations review, design, implementation, operation, and testing.
  • Proficient in the use of Building Management Systems software such as: Siemens Design, Trane, Tracer Ensemble, enteliWEB, and webCTRL.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, air compressors, fans, and pumps.
  • Experience in repair and maintenance of digital building control systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and other computer programs such as Visio is preferred.
  • Skilled in the use and safety of hand and power tools and machines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC building automation systems and related equipment in order to ensure continuous operation and prevent equipment interruptions through proactive analysis of the BAS front end and back end software platforms.
  • Install, repair, replace and recalibrate BAS controllers, terminal devices and ancillary components to maintain continuously commissioned HVAC BAS controls.
  • Perform continuous updates and improvements to system front end graphics, back end programming and parametric configurations, databases and networks.
  • Work in conjunction with the Utility and Energy Services commissioning /retro commissioning team to deliver BAS operational and energy efficiency improvements.
  • Conduct minor repairs including but not limited to coordinating and assisting in complex corrective and planned maintenance on: pneumatic air systems, DDC controls, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, heating hot water and steam systems, hydronic pumps and related piping and components, chilled water air handlers, fan-coil units, VAV terminal boxes, direct expansion (DX), PTAC units, exhaust fans, ventilated systems, CRAC and CRAH units.
  • Serve as the first response team for indoor environmental work requests received and dispatched by Work Control Center.
