About The Position

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Controls Installer to support our Controls Division. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about learning and developing a long-term career in the HVAC and Building Automation industry. The Controls Installer will assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and HVAC systems under the guidance of experienced technicians. This entry-level position provides hands-on training and foundational experience to help you advance within the field.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Basic understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Basic mechanical skills and ability to use hand and power tools
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to follow instructions accurately
  • Good physical condition and ability to lift heavy equipment
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to work in varying conditions, including extreme temperatures, confined spaces, or at heights
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory

Nice To Haves

  • Enrollment in or completion of a relevant HVAC or refrigeration training program preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation of refrigerant piping and condensate piping, including cutting, bending, hangers/supports, and connecting pipes
  • Assist with low-voltage wiring on VRF systems and BAS systems
  • Support the installation of HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including compressors, condensers, and evaporators
  • Assist in performing pressure and vacuum tests to ensure the integrity of piping systems
  • Support the detection and repair of leaks using appropriate testing equipment and methods
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing tasks
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding refrigerant handling and environmental protection
  • Properly use and maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and attend assigned classes or workshops
  • Stay updated with industry standards and advancements in HVAC technology
  • Develop hands-on knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, VRF, and Building Automation systems
  • Assist with inventory management of tools, materials, and supplies
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of work performed, including service reports and equipment logs
  • Report issues or concerns to the supervising technician promptly
  • Ensure follow-up activities are completed as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
