About The Position

Our site in Burnet, TX is seeking a Controls Engineering Co-Op to join our team for the Spring 2027 season. This assignment is intended to be full-time, 6 months in duration. In this role, you will work established controls engineers to develop new equipment programming, update and improve existing equipment programming, troubleshoot existing manufacturing equipment, provide support to manufacturing operations, and keep our documentation up to date.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Exposure to programming or scripting languages such as C++, Python, HTML, Java, PLC programming, or similar technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a desire to learn and troubleshoot technical systems.
  • Ability to learn new software, automation platforms, and manufacturing technologies quickly.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering and operations teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Must be a currently enrolled student
  • Available to work 40 hours a week, M-F (8a-5p) beginning in January through June
  • Must be familiar with the university’s requirements to participate in a co-op program

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Support the modification, testing, and optimization of machine control programs to improve performance and reliability.
  • Partner with manufacturing and engineering teams to support daily production operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of equipment upgrades, process improvements, and automation solutions.
  • Analyze equipment performance and identify opportunities to increase efficiency, reliability, and productivity.
  • Create, update, and maintain machine, process, and system documentation to support operational excellence.
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities, root cause investigations, and corrective action implementation.
  • Gain hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment, controls systems, and industrial automation technologies.
