About The Position

The Industrial Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated control systems that support manufacturing and industrial operations. This role will lead PLC, HMI, SCADA, and motion control initiatives to improve equipment reliability, safety, and production efficiency. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with industrial automation systems and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering
  • Strong PLC programming experience (Allen-Bradley preferred)
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms
  • Background in manufacturing, heavy industrial, automotive, food & beverage, or similar
  • PLC Platforms (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Siemens S7, etc.)
  • HMI/SCADA (FactoryTalk, Wonderware, Ignition, etc.)
  • VFDs, servo drives, and motor control systems
  • Industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, DeviceNet)
  • Electrical troubleshooting (480V systems, control circuits)
  • AutoCAD Electrical (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations and maintenance
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Project ownership mindset
  • Continuous improvement focus

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and modify PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms)
  • Configure and program HMIs and SCADA systems
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics and control panel layouts
  • Support integration of robotics, VFDs, servo drives, and motion control systems
  • Diagnose and resolve PLC, electrical, and automation-related issues
  • Provide on-call or floor support for critical production equipment
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions
  • Optimize system performance to reduce downtime and improve OEE
  • Lead automation projects from concept through commissioning
  • Coordinate with mechanical engineers, maintenance teams, and contractors
  • Develop project scopes, timelines, and cost estimates
  • Oversee installation, startup, and validation of new equipment
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and automation upgrades
  • Improve data collection, system reporting, and plant connectivity
  • Support safety system upgrades and compliance initiatives
