Controls Engineer, Virtualized PLCs

FluidstackAustin, TX
$197,000 - $227,000Remote

About The Position

Fluidstack is building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI, focusing on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else. This involves acquiring power, designing and building data centers, and operating them. The company values extreme ownership, velocity, first principles thinking, and a passion for the frontier of AI. This role is focused on engineering the virtualized PLC platform, moving control logic from proprietary boxes to software-defined infrastructure. The engineer will port and validate control applications onto virtual runtimes, build test harnesses to prove virtual controls against hardware behavior, and define the reference architecture for controls as software, including networking, redundancy, and failover.

Requirements

  • Programmed industrial controls professionally: PLC platforms and IEC 61131 languages.
  • Worked with virtualization or software-based control runtimes.
  • Test control logic rigorously.
  • Understand determinism, scan times, and the implications of controls becoming software.
  • Document control narratives for engineers and operators.

Nice To Haves

  • Codesys or software PLCs.
  • Hypervisors and real-time Linux.
  • BMS and EPMS applications.
  • Functional safety.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer the virtualized PLC platform: control logic moving from proprietary boxes to software-defined infrastructure.
  • Port and validate control applications onto virtual runtimes without giving up determinism or safety.
  • Build the test harnesses that prove virtual controls against hardware behavior before a site sees them.
  • Define the reference architecture: networking, redundancy, and failover for controls as software.

Benefits

  • Pay equity and transparency.
