About The Position

A Controls Engineer in this role serves as the technical lead for the entire lifecycle of industrial automation projects, from initial concept and design through PLC programming, installation, and final site commissioning. We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer to take full ownership of production equipment projects. You will be responsible for designing electrical control systems, developing sophisticated PLC and HMI software, and managing the physical installation and startup of automated machinery. This is a "cradle-to-grave" project role requiring both high-level engineering design and hands-on field expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in industrial automation and project management.
  • Expert-level knowledge of PLC programming languages like Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block.
  • Deep understanding of industrial networking protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus.
  • Ability to travel to production sites for installation and commissioning (up to 30-50% depending on project phase).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with motion control (servos/VFDs) and robotic integration (e.g., FANUC or ABB).
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards such as OSHA and NFPA 70E.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control panel layouts using CAD software like AutoCAD.
  • Specify all control hardware including PLCs, sensors, and safety components.
  • Design and program complex logic for platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell or Siemens.
  • Develop intuitive HMI/SCADA interfaces for equipment operation and monitoring.
  • Manage timelines, budgets, and vendors from the initial proposal phase through installation.
  • Lead on-site installation efforts, overseeing electrical contractors to ensure systems are wired correctly.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Debug software and hardware issues during the startup phase.
  • Provide technical training to maintenance and operations teams once equipment is live.
