About The Position

As a Controls Engineer you will be responsible for supporting plant automation, controls systems, and production equipment in a high-volume engine manufacturing environment. This role focuses on safe and reliable operation of PLC, HMI, robotics, networking, and related electrical controls systems while also supporting launches, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities across the plant.

Requirements

  • MUST be able to work 2nd shift
  • 3 years of manufacturing experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical /computer engineering from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience in Controls Field
  • Intimate knowledge of automotive machinery and manufacturing assembly processes
  • Broad industrial controls and automation knowledge as it relates to automotive assembly plant
  • Oral and written communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience
  • Able to work over time as needed

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment as a Controls Engineer
  • Proficient in Rockwell Contrologix platform and RSLogix 5000
  • Proficient in Rockwell EtherNET IP architecture and configuration
  • Proficient in Siemens TIA Portal/Step7 platform
  • Proficient in Vision and Barcode applications (Cognex, Matrox, Keyence)
  • VFD experience (Siemens)
  • Proficient in CNC Siemens 840D
  • Fanuc robotics automation experience
  • Proficient with basic electrical standards, NEC Code, and GM standards
  • Proficient with safety standards, lockout, ESWP, safety assessments, buyoff processes, GM standard safety protocols

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily support of production operations with focus on personnel and equipment safety, process quality and uptime with a focus on automation and controls.
  • Provide technical/engineering support to assist production and maintenance with troubleshooting equipment/process failures and with identifying effective follow-up countermeasures.
  • Work with skilled trades personnel when required.
  • Identify and execute projects to support achievement of departmental business objectives and continuous improvement of safety, quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Ensure new and existing equipment meets operational requirements and appropriate standards.
  • Machinery / equipment Controls Management to ensure compliance with GM Safety and Controls standards.
  • Maintenance / Production Guidance (technical troubleshooting and direction, safety counsel)
  • Ensure proper documentation (drawings, manuals etc.) is available and properly maintained for all equipment in assigned area and collaborate to develop maintenance standard operating procedures (SOPs/Task instruction sheets (TIS))
  • Participate in downtime planning and launch activities, as required.
  • Identify technical training and knowledge transfer opportunities with other Controls Engineers and Maintenance Teams
  • Maintain current knowledge in fields of expertise.
  • Update management on current status and emerging trends of areas of expertise as relating to equipment standards, legislative requirements, GM Requirements, etc.
