•$85,000 - $95,000

About The Position

SSOE is seeking a Controls Engineer focused on supporting the design and delivery of Building Automation Systems/Building Management Systems (BAS/BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS). The role combines hands-on controls software experience with engineering design, specifications, and system architecture development. The engineer will contribute to projects in industrial, commercial, mission-critical, data center, and other complex facilities, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver quality work on schedule and within budget. The position involves developing designs and documentation, defining system architectures and integration strategies, reviewing vendor and software deliverables, and supporting testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field verification. The engineer may coordinate designers and less-experienced engineers, participate in client meetings, and assist with project estimates, proposals, schedules, and scope development. Travel may be required. The role may require use of AI or similar digital technology to perform job functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation, Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Three or more years of related practical engineering experience.
  • Direct BAS/BMS and EPMS design experience, including development of engineering drawings, sequences, points lists, integration requirements, and construction deliverables.
  • Familiarity with BAS/BMS and EPMS applications, including controller logic, graphics, alarming, trending, reporting, and third-party system integrations.
  • Experience writing BAS/BMS and EPMS specifications and developing BAS/BMS and EPMS system and network architectures.
  • Working knowledge of controls networks, electrical power monitoring, HVAC control applications, instrumentation, and integration of packaged or third-party systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, cybersecurity considerations, and industry practices for building controls and power monitoring systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, coordinate across disciplines, manage assigned work, and produce accurate documentation with limited supervision.
  • Experience with CADD and common engineering productivity tools.
  • A valid driver’s license is required and may be waived for international assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Five or more years of related practical engineering experience.
  • Experience engineering and programming Siemens building automation platforms, including Desigo CC and Desigo PXC automation controllers.
  • Experience with Siemens SIMATIC controls using STEP 7 within TIA Portal, including S7-1200 and/or S7-1500 controllers.
  • Experience with Siemens WinCC or WinCC Unified visualization.
  • Experience with mission-critical facilities, data centers, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or other complex industrial projects.
  • Experience integrating BAS/BMS and EPMS with HVAC equipment, power meters, protective devices, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, and other facility systems.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, controls acceptance testing, and issue resolution in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop BAS/BMS and EPMS designs for industrial, commercial, mission-critical, data center, and other complex facilities.
  • Prepare controls drawings and documentation, including system architecture and network diagrams, control schematics, points lists, sequences of operation, panel and device layouts, and related design deliverables.
  • Write and edit BAS/BMS and EPMS specifications, control narratives, sequences of operation, and related procurement or construction documents.
  • Define system architectures and integration strategies using applicable protocols such as BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP/RTU, SNMP, OPC UA, and other open or manufacturer-specific interfaces.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methods and techniques on smaller projects or portions of larger projects, adapting accepted methods when project conditions require.
  • Perform detailed engineering work with general direction, exercise sound technical judgment, and seek guidance for unusual or complex issues.
  • Coordinate controls requirements with electrical, mechanical, process, information technology, and other project disciplines.
  • Review vendor submittals, shop drawings, control logic, and software deliverables for compliance with project requirements and design intent.
  • Support system testing, commissioning, functional performance testing, troubleshooting, and field verification as required.
  • Participate in client meetings to define scope, present progress, resolve technical issues, and support client satisfaction.
  • May direct or coordinate the work of designers and less-experienced engineers and check assigned portions of project deliverables.
  • Assist with project estimates, proposals, schedules, and scope development; communicate changes, risks, and technical decisions to the project team.
  • Use CADD and other digital engineering tools to develop project deliverables and remain current with evolving controls technologies, codes, and design methods.
  • Travel as required.
