About The Position

HERCO is seeking a results-oriented, self-starter Controls Engineer passionate about automation with limited travel. The role involves developing efficient PLC code from scratch and commissioning units into production, working alongside mechanical engineers and service technicians. HERCO specializes in creating new and existing capital equipment for the die-cast sector within the automotive manufacturing industry. Sponsorship or agency involvement is not available at this time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2-years experience in industrial controls engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience with PLC programming and configuration (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems, including HMI or SCADA platforms.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel design.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements applicable to industrial automation.
  • Availability to travel to customers domestic and Canada without restrictions up to 25% over a calendar year.
  • Current passport required or new application completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Protective footwear required at employee expense.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with robotics integration.
  • Proficiency in hardware design (EPLAN preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with network communications protocols used in industrial automation (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, Profinet).
  • Familiar building electrical panels and troubleshooting controls systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and commission PLC, HMI, or SCADA systems to control manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Perform system integration and testing to ensure seamless operation of control systems within the shop or production environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to develop and implement control systems.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation including electrical schematics, programming code, and operational manuals.
  • Provide technical support and training to operators and maintenance personnel on control system functionality and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies related to control systems and automation.
