About The Position

The HVAC Controls Engineer serves a critical role within the organization in creating PLC based controls programs for production orders for HVAC equipment and troubleshooting controls issues with HVAC equipment that has been recently installed in the field. This role involves both in-house responsibilities, such as remote diagnosis of programming and controls issues, participation in after-hours support, and programming of PLCs and DDC controllers, as well as field responsibilities requiring travel throughout the continental US (estimated 20% annually) for onsite diagnosis and customer communication.

Requirements

  • Ability to program, commission, and troubleshoot PLC based controls.
  • Two years previous experience or combination of education and experience in programming and controls.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Effective written and spoken communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Good decision making and analytical problem solving abilities.
  • Strong multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.
  • Lift up to 50lbs.
  • Sit or stand for up to 95 percent of work hours.
  • Periodic visits to the manufacturing facility with seasonal hot and cold temperatures, dust, and some chemical fume exposure.

Nice To Haves

  • A working knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, and building automation is preferred.
  • HVAC system concepts, equipment and terminologies.
  • DDC / PLC programming.
  • AutoCAD platform.
  • Programming experience in one form of DDC/PLC programming languages.

Responsibilities

  • Remotely diagnose programming and controls issues with field service technicians.
  • Participate in after-hours remote support rotation.
  • Assist with programming of PLCs and DDC controllers and diagnose issues within PLC programs.
  • Work with sales engineers to design low voltage DDC/PLC control systems for customer HVAC equipment, including creation of PI&D drawings, points lists, and sequence of operation.
  • Provide final project documentation, such as as-builts, installation operation & maintenance manuals, and system parameters.
  • Assist with commissioning & testing of equipment on the manufacturing floor.
  • Assist with R&D projects and systems validations.
  • Travel throughout the continental US (estimated 20% annually) for onsite diagnosis of programming and controls issues with field service technicians.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and technicians in the field through email/phone.
  • Read and translate electrical schematics for the purpose of troubleshooting.
  • Document work performed and follow-up action plans with customers/co-workers.
