About The Position

SIG SAUER, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of firearms, electro-optics, ammunition, and related products. The Controls Engineer II is responsible for designing and implementing PLC-based machine control systems for automated and semi-automated production equipment. This includes PLC programming, electrical cabinet design, and specification/sourcing of hardware. The role also involves programming and integrating robots for assembly and machining, and supporting existing equipment to maintain factory throughput.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline required.
3-6 years of previous experience.
Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Proficiency with multiple PLC software packages including but not limited to Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi.
Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
Written and verbal communication of complicated subjects is required.
In-depth knowledge of servo driven systems, load cells, sensors, and HMI displays.
In-depth knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
Basic CAD skills for documentation of electrical schematics and panel layout.
Project management skills.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Monday.com.
In-depth knowledge of NFPA 79 electrical and OSHA safety standards is preferred.
In-depth knowledge of programming robotic systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

Design and implement PLC-based machine control systems for automated and semi-automated production equipment.
Perform PLC programming, electrical cabinet design, and specification/sourcing of electrical and electro-mechanical hardware.
Build electrical cabinets and panels for projects.
Program and integrate robots for assembly and machining operations.
Support existing PLC and robot-based equipment to maintain factory throughput.
Communicate with Mechanical Engineers to generate concepts, detailed sequence of operations, and specify special electro-mechanical hardware.
Manage individual projects to synchronize with mechanical hardware delivery.
Document project progress using a project tracker.
Provide detailed documentation for PLC and robotic programs, I/O lists, bills of material, and electrical schematics.
Maintain documentation if modifications are required.
Wire and build complete electrical panels, cabinets, and HMI displays.
Wire completed machinery.
Debug control systems with the mechanical engineer to meet SIG machine spec runoff requirements, NFPA 79 electrical, and OSHA safety standards.
Respond to troubleshoot existing production equipment to maintain output, including specialized assembly and test equipment, automated CNC equipment, and robotic systems.
Resolve quality issues by applying sensor, vision technology, and fail-safe controls programming.
Communicate with all levels of production management and engineering regarding project status and troubleshooting duties.
Work with Manufacturing Engineers to generate detailed machine specifications for turnkey, automated systems.
Recommend and implement technological alterations and enhancements for machine control systems and automation.
Perform as a technical leader for production personnel.
Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
Follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
