About The Position

SIG SAUER, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of firearms, electro-optics, ammunition, and related products. The Controls Engineer II is responsible for designing and implementing PLC-based machine control systems for automated and semi-automated production equipment. This includes PLC programming, electrical cabinet design, and specification/sourcing of hardware. The role also involves programming and integrating robots for assembly and machining, and supporting existing equipment to maintain factory throughput.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline required.
  • 3-6 years of previous experience.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with multiple PLC software packages including but not limited to Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Written and verbal communication of complicated subjects is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of servo driven systems, load cells, sensors, and HMI displays.
  • In-depth knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Basic CAD skills for documentation of electrical schematics and panel layout.
  • Project management skills.

  • Familiarity with Monday.com.
  • In-depth knowledge of NFPA 79 electrical and OSHA safety standards is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of programming robotic systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement PLC-based machine control systems for automated and semi-automated production equipment.
  • Perform PLC programming, electrical cabinet design, and specification/sourcing of electrical and electro-mechanical hardware.
  • Build electrical cabinets and panels for projects.
  • Program and integrate robots for assembly and machining operations.
  • Support existing PLC and robot-based equipment to maintain factory throughput.
  • Communicate with Mechanical Engineers to generate concepts, detailed sequence of operations, and specify special electro-mechanical hardware.
  • Manage individual projects to synchronize with mechanical hardware delivery.
  • Document project progress using a project tracker.
  • Provide detailed documentation for PLC and robotic programs, I/O lists, bills of material, and electrical schematics.
  • Maintain documentation if modifications are required.
  • Wire and build complete electrical panels, cabinets, and HMI displays.
  • Wire completed machinery.
  • Debug control systems with the mechanical engineer to meet SIG machine spec runoff requirements, NFPA 79 electrical, and OSHA safety standards.
  • Respond to troubleshoot existing production equipment to maintain output, including specialized assembly and test equipment, automated CNC equipment, and robotic systems.
  • Resolve quality issues by applying sensor, vision technology, and fail-safe controls programming.
  • Communicate with all levels of production management and engineering regarding project status and troubleshooting duties.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to generate detailed machine specifications for turnkey, automated systems.
  • Recommend and implement technological alterations and enhancements for machine control systems and automation.
  • Perform as a technical leader for production personnel.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
