About The Position

Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Plant Vogtle 3&4 Site Engineering organization is seeking a high performing and self-motivated Digital I&C Engineer. This position will be located at Southern Nuclear Company's Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, Georgia. The successful candidate will work in either the Digital I&C System or Design Engineering group at Plant Vogtle 3&4. The mission of the Digital I&C System Functional Area is to provide technical assistance for specified digital systems and components to the organization, including operations and maintenance departments. This includes monitoring and advocacy of owned systems to maintain system health and promote reliable equipment. The mission of the Digital Engineering Design Functional Area is to provide technical conscience and leadership by ensuring configuration changes to the design of the AP1000 digital systems are high quality, budgeted, planned, scheduled, and implemented in a cost-effective manner. This position will provide Digital I&C support by preparing engineering calculations, performing engineering studies, developing cost estimates for design changes, reviewing vendor correspondence, performing conceptual design studies, performing design changes, performing design bases maintenance, performing equivalency determinations, as well as monitoring and providing technical recommendations and Long-Range Planning for assigned digital systems and components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (not Engineering Technology) from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of operational power plant or utility experience in an engineering capacity.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of common computer tools, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Must meet background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements.
  • Must complete the SNC Initial Engineering Training (approximately 4 weeks long).

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, and Control Systems Engineering.
  • Advanced degree and/or PE license.
  • Experience with various digital control systems such as DCS or PLCs (Preferred Ovation, ABB, Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE).
  • Experience in performance of engineering design, analyses, preparation of engineering evaluations, preparation of engineering studies for power generating facilities, preparation of engineering calculations, project management and technical support of both maintenance and engineering organizations in the resolution of digital component issues.
  • Basic knowledge of design basis configuration management, project management, and the design modification process.
  • Experience in the application of design of digital control systems.
  • Strong familiarity with calculations.
  • Experience developing control software under the industry design process.
  • Experience with Windows Operating Systems and applications.
  • Knowledgeable of the processes used to address operational, maintenance, and reliability issues for electrical/I&C components.
  • Knowledge of monitoring instrumentation such as vibration, radiation, seismic monitoring systems.
  • Strong knowledge of AP1000 or PWR design bases.
  • Knowledge of the Protection and Safety Monitoring System (PMS) as defined by the AP1000 design.
  • Knowledge of the Plant Control System (PLS) as defined by the AP1000 design.
  • Nuclear operational power plant or utility experience.
  • Strong background in nuclear power systems.
  • Knowledge in EMI/RFI application and control.
  • Engineering Analysis experience.
  • Strong background in design, systems, component, or programs engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance for specified digital systems and components to the organization, including operations and maintenance departments.
