The job: To assess the integrity and effectiveness of the Bank’s internal control framework in supporting Best Egg’s Consumer Loan business, with a focus on either Operations or Capital Markets, Finance, and Accounting, to support the mitigation of operational, financial, and reputational risks and the protection of the Bank and its stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A background in financial services with experience in risk oversight and control activities
  • Experience developing end-to-end process, risk, and control documentation, including process mapping, risk identification, control design, control descriptions, and supporting procedures.
  • Experience conducting gap assessments against risk frameworks, policies, standards, or regulatory requirements and translating identified gaps into actionable remediation plans.
  • Experience supporting complex integration, transformation, or change initiatives involving risk and control requirements across multiple business and functional stakeholders.
  • The ability to review processes, recognize potential risks, and establish the safeguards needed to reduce those risks. This includes evaluating requirements within Barclays Standards and ensuring existing documented safeguards meet expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive deliverables across multiple stakeholders, manage competing priorities and dependencies, and escalate risks or barriers when appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to successfully complete assignments.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to translate complex business processes and risk concepts into clear, concise, and sustainable risk and control documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • FinTech or Consumer Lending experience, specifically in Operations or Capital Markets, Finance and Accounting (preferred)
  • Experience supporting business integrations, transformation initiatives, or large-scale change programs within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Experience leveraging generative AI tools, such as Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT, to enhance productivity, research, analysis, and documentation while adhering to applicable data security, privacy, and responsible AI requirements.
  • Experience working with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) platforms such as Workiva and Service Now
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple deliverables, dependencies, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Experience providing effective challenge and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of business areas (Operations or Capital Markets, Finance, and Accounting), Best Egg products, processes, and platforms to be able to assess risk
  • Support integration of Best Egg’s Consumer Loan business into Barclays’ risk and control environment by assessing current-state processes, risks, controls, governance, and reporting against Barclays requirements and identifying actions required to achieve the target state.
  • Facilitate end-to-end process and control mapping with business and functional subject matter experts, documenting key process activities, risks, controls, ownership, systems, evidence, dependencies, and governance to establish a complete and sustainable control environment.
  • Perform current-state and gap assessments to identify differences between existing Best Egg practices and Barclays policies, standards, frameworks, and control requirements, document gaps, and support development of appropriate remediation plans.
  • Partner with business process and control owners to identify key risks, define and document appropriately designed controls, establish control ownership, and ensure controls are supported by clear procedures, evidence, and governance.
  • Identify control gaps and deficiencies and partner with accountable stakeholders to develop practical remediation plans, establish milestones, monitor progress, and provide effective challenge through closure.
  • Development of reports to communicate key findings from risk assessment including control weaknesses and recommendations to control owners, senior management, and other stakeholders.
  • Execution of reviews to determine the effectiveness of the bank's internal controls framework aligned to established and evolving policies, regulation, and best practice.
  • Implementation of adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and set appropriate methodology of assessing controls against the Controls Framework.
  • Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
  • Perform complex tasks and issues using well-developed professional knowledge, judgment, and skills to deliver high-quality work that impacts the broader business function.
  • Independently establish priorities and objectives, provide subject matter expertise and guidance to key stakeholders, and influence outcomes through collaboration, effective challenge, and sound decision-making.
  • Independently execute complex, collaborative assignments, engaging appropriate areas of specialization and cross-functional partners to achieve required outcomes.
  • Identify new approaches and opportunities to advance assignments and projects, applying a combination of cross-functional methodologies, professional expertise, and sound judgment to address complex issues and deliver effective solutions.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contributes to the achievement of the objectives of the organization sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practices (in other areas, teams, companies, etc.) to solve problems creatively and effectively.

  • Collaborate with business partners to understand existing remediation plans and design and implement remediation plans.
  • Assist with the documentation of existing “end to end” processes, controls, reporting, and governance with integration into Barclays control systems.
