About The Position

Clemens Food Group is looking for an experienced Controls & Automation Technician to help design, troubleshoot, commission, and continuously improve the automation systems behind their manufacturing operations. This role involves working across PLCs, HMIs, drives, servo systems, motion control, robotics, SCADA, electrical controls, and data acquisition, while partnering closely with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, Operations, vendors, and contractors. The primary goals are to reduce downtime, improve reliability, remove production bottlenecks, and enhance the performance of automated systems.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of related experience working with automation systems, controls, and computerized production equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of PLC programming and HMI systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Motion control.
  • Strong working knowledge of VFDs and DC drives.
  • Strong working knowledge of Servo systems and controllers.
  • Strong working knowledge of Robotics.
  • Strong working knowledge of SCADA.
  • Strong working knowledge of Machine troubleshooting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Electrical controls and schematics.
  • Strong working knowledge of Hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Experience testing, debugging, and improving machine performance.
  • Ability to move beyond identifying what failed and systematically determine why it failed.
  • Ability to balance urgent production requests with project work and changing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and operational partners.
  • Ability to translate complex automation issues into practical solutions.
  • Strong focus on problem solving, safety, equipment reliability, business results, and continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable sharing knowledge with Maintenance and Production teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens controls.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, test, troubleshoot, and improve PLC and HMI systems supporting manufacturing operations.
  • Work with DC drives, VFDs, servo systems, motion-controlled equipment, robotics, SCADA, and data-acquisition systems.
  • Develop electrical layouts, select components, calculate electrical power requirements, and maintain electrical drawings and control schematics.
  • Support equipment startup, commissioning, and system testing.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on equipment and production failures.
  • Integrate robotics and automation technology into manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor automation-system integrity, availability, performance, and operability.
  • Maintain PLC/HMI/drive program backups, version control, and system records.
  • Develop and execute validation protocols and collect test evidence.
  • Create and improve automation SOPs and lifecycle documentation.
  • Apply system changes, patches, and upgrades through the Change Control process.
  • Train Maintenance and Production employees on operation, troubleshooting, and best practices.
  • Recommend improvements that increase reliability, improve safety, reduce downtime, and support production goals.
