About The Position

This direct-hire role offers a blank-screen engineering environment for a Controls Engineer tired of routine plant maintenance loops or repeatedly deploying identical machine templates. Requirements

  • 2+ years of controls engineering experience writing Allen-Bradley PLC logic (Studio 5000 / RSLogix) and HMI interfaces from scratch (not just editing existing code blocks).
  • Engineering Education: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Field Readiness & Balance: Ability to travel 25%–50% domestically for system commissioning, backed by guaranteed comp days for weekend field time.
  • Professional Longevity: A stable career history demonstrating multi-year tenure and commitment with prior employers.
  • Local Commute: US Citizen or Green Card holder residing within a comfortable commuting distance of the Greater Milwaukee / Washington County area.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience configuring multi-axis servo motion control or industrial vision hardware (Cognex, Keyence).
  • High-level software programming (C#, VB.NET) or relational database fluency (SQL).
  • Robot programming or path-teaching experience (FANUC, Yaskawa, ABB, KUKA).

Responsibilities

  • Design Scratch PLC/HMI Code: Develop robust PLC logic and intuitive HMI interfaces from scratch for complex, custom automation systems, material handling lines, and robotic cells.
  • Configure Motion & Vision Systems: Integrate multi-axis servo drives, EtherNet/IP communication protocols, machine safety architectures, and industrial vision platforms.
  • Review Electrical Schematics: Collaborate with CAD designers to review electrical schematics, verifying panel layouts against BOMs and safety regulations.
  • Champion Field Startups: Lead on-site customer startups and commissioning sequences (25%–50% domestic travel), ensuring seamless system integration.
  • Optional High-Level Integration: Incorporate C#, VB.NET, or SQL database connections for clients requiring enterprise-level data integration.
