About The Position

Shearer’s Foods is seeking a skilled Controls & Automation Technician to maintain and optimize our controls and automation systems. This role is critical to ensuring smooth operations across our high-speed manufacturing environment. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams—Safety, Quality, Engineering, and Production—while providing technical guidance to enhance controls capabilities across our network. Execute all tasks with a strong commitment to safety and help foster a “Safety First” culture. Perform advanced troubleshooting using PLC and HMI code to diagnose and resolve downtime issues. Maintain ownership of program backups and ensure all changes comply with safety and quality standards. Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance, inspections, and system upgrades. Train maintenance personnel on control systems and functions. Recommend equipment upgrades to prevent obsolescence and improve reliability. Stay current on innovations in parts, equipment, and processes. Develop and execute PMs for controls equipment and cabinets. Identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors. Modify existing PLC and HMI programs to improve processes. Ensure compliance with GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) in all activities.

Requirements

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and related software.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Expertise in Rockwell PLC software and hardware: Software: RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, Studio 5000, CCW, FactoryTalk View Studio; Hardware: SLC 500, MicroLogix, CompactLogix, ControlLogix, PanelView, PowerFlex
  • Familiarity with high-speed manufacturing and packaging machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical prints.
  • Experience with ABB & Fanuc robot programming (and others).
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance or related experience.
