About The Position

This role involves reviewing and executing electrical/automation capital projects, providing guidance to project teams to ensure equipment aligns with established platform standards. The engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining backup strategies for PLCs, DCS, HMIs, and other automation equipment, as well as managing the manufacturing network infrastructure. The position also focuses on leading process improvement initiatives, resolving quality problems, improving equipment designs, and providing escalated technical support for process control. Ensuring Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed and establishing standards using Six Sigma/Lean methodology are key aspects. The role supports safety, energy, and environmental initiatives, team performance, and employee engagement, while providing leadership for optimal equipment and process functioning and reliability. Knowledge of common electrical codes/standards and the ability to read/review electrical and P&ID drawings are essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in direct manufacturing with an Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering role
  • Experience with PLCs (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley preferred), DCS (Emerson’s DeltaV preferred), and related process automation equipment such as VFDs, instrumentation, and discrete control devices is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of common electrical codes/standards (NFPA 70E/497/499, NEMA, NEC, ISA 88/95, etc.)
  • Ability to read/review/redline relevant electrical and P&ID drawings utilizing ISA symbology
  • Self-motivated, responsible and team-oriented individual
  • Full attention to plant and related safety standards and procedure

Nice To Haves

  • Chemical/pharmaceutical maintenance and/or project experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of applicable NFPA (NEC) and NEMA codes
  • Working knowledge of GMP standards
  • Substantial engineering knowledge and experience in hazardous electrical area classification, PSM design requirements, and medium/low voltage electrical systems
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Member of appropriate professional body (e.g., IEEE)

Responsibilities

  • Review and execute electrical/automation capital projects and provide guidance to project teams to ensure equipment selected is in line with established platform standards (hardware, software revisions, documentation, drawings, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain a backup strategy for PLCs (Rockwell, Siemens, etc.), DCS (DeltaV), HMIs, and other automation equipment in conjunction with established corporate procedures
  • Responsible for performance, equipment reliability, and up-time percentage
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain manufacturing network infrastructure (network, switches, firewalls, access points, etc.)
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and organizational change to increase operational efficiencies.
  • Work with multi-functional teams to resolve quality problems and identify system issues.
  • Develop ways to improve equipment designs, upgrades, and line efficiencies.
  • Provide escalated technical process control support
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being executed.
  • Establish standards and manage process control utilizing Six Sigma/Lean methodology
  • Supports safety, energy, and environmental initiatives
  • Supports team performance and creates a culture of employee engagement
  • Provide leadership for optimal functioning and reliability of equipment and processes.
  • Ensure safety standards are always followed and improved wherever and whenever possible
  • Professionally and systematically guide the refinement of the preventive maintenance function on electrical systems to maximize reliability
  • Provide electrical designs for assigned projects, with an emphasis on support of electrical power distribution.
  • Ensure the application of NFPA/NEC regulatory standards in conjunction with MilliporeSigma local and corporate standards
  • Develop good working relationships with site personnel to ensure maintenance and project objectives are met, to anticipate and resolve technical difficulties, and to minimize any disruptive effect of maintenance/ projects on production
  • Review/advise on creating and revising equipment standards across sites and ensuring critical spare parts are identified
