About The Position

The Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard is a leading provider of behavioral health, psychiatric, and addiction recovery services in Philadelphia. As a mission-driven healthcare organization, we are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care while maintaining strong financial stewardship and operational excellence. We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting operations and financial reporting functions. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting systems, financial controls, budgeting, payroll oversight, financial reporting, compliance, and audit activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience required
  • Minimum of 10 years of healthcare accounting experience required
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting and U.S. GAAP
  • Extensive knowledge of healthcare financial reporting and reimbursement
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, revenue cycle management, payroll oversight, and financial analysis
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, auditing, tax reporting, and internal controls
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent analytical, leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting critical deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • CPA or CMA designation strongly preferred
  • Previous Controller experience within a hospital or healthcare organization strongly preferred
  • Experience working with external public accounting firms preferred
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) billing systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, Payroll Oversight, Cost Accounting, Revenue Recognition, and Financial Reporting
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, accounting procedures, and internal controls
  • Monitor organizational financial performance and communicate key financial metrics to executive leadership
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare financial analyses, forecasts, and budget variance reports
  • Assist with capital planning, pricing analysis, and contract negotiations
  • Oversee operating budget development and financial planning
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Maintain the organization's chart of accounts and accounting systems
  • Monitor bank reconciliations, cash flow, banking relationships, and debt compliance
  • Coordinate annual audits and provide required documentation to external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, grant, and contractual reporting requirements
  • Oversee tax filings, insurance renewals, and financial compliance activities
  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets
  • Provide leadership and oversight to finance and accounting staff
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on financial strategy and operational initiatives
  • Participate in organizational committees and leadership meetings
  • Support continuous process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
